Regarding new THC standards
In preparation for the revision of the Cannabis Control Act in 2024, there will be huge benefits to setting the THC residue standard at less than 0.3%!
The amendment to the Cannabis Control Act has been passed, and the key to it is the setting of THC residue standards.
My preference is for the THC residue standard to be less than 0.3%. I would like to explain the benefits of this setting.
Economic Effects
- Meeting international standards will boost trade and help Japan's hemp industry explode with growth!
- It will also lead to diversification of agriculture and provide new sources of income for farmers.
- Technological innovation in the hemp sector will also accelerate, making a significant contribution to job creation.
Public health considerations
- The line between hemp and psychoactive marijuana is now clearer, allowing consumers to use the product with confidence.
- Strict regulations ensure that products contain only trace amounts of THC, significantly reducing the risk of accidental intoxication and adverse health effects.
- It is expected that the market will be revitalized as product consistency and quality improve and consumer confidence increases.
Regulatory clarification and enforcement
- Clarifying regulations will simplify enforcement mechanisms and reduce the burden on law enforcement agencies.
- It will also promote compliance among stakeholders and reduce administrative burdens and enforcement costs.
Global trends
- Countries around the world, including the European Union and North America, have already adopted similar regulations.
- By aligning with international standards, Japan can participate in the global hemp industry based on common rules with the world.
summary
Setting the THC residue limit at less than 0.3% would be a win-win for Japan! It would contribute to economic growth, public health, regulatory clarity, and alignment with international trends.
In addition, the Japan Cannabis Industry Association (MAJIC) , of which I am a director, recently released a position paper on this matter, so please feel free to take a look.
