The Benefits of Home Birth and the Importance of Midwives - 4 Heartwarming Stories

A woman who gave birth at home talks about her wonderful relationship with her midwife

Aguri's Case

Her first birth took place at a maternity hospital and went smoothly without any particular issues. However, when it came time to give birth to her second child, Kimajima naturally chose to give birth at home. Her busy work schedule and family circumstances at the time also influenced her choice to give birth at home. Kimajima says that by choosing to give birth at home, she felt a stronger sense of "a warm birth."

Kimijima describes her experience of giving birth in a hospital as being frightening due to the coldness, hardness of the examination table and the impersonal attitude of the doctor. In contrast, she said that at home she was able to give birth in a calm environment, surrounded by a sense of security and warmth on her familiar futon. Midwife Negishi Yuko was by Kimijima's side throughout the birth, and her presence was a great source of emotional support. Kimijima felt that it was especially important that "the first person to touch your child is someone you can trust," and she still expresses her gratitude to her.

Rieko's Case

"Last August, Yuko delivered my daughter here. At that time, I didn't feel like I was giving birth alone, but rather that she was supporting me the whole time. If I had given birth in a hospital, I might have felt like I was fighting alone," says Rieko.

During the birth, Rieko remembers that Yuko told her, "The baby wants to be born, so you have to help him." This was a great support for her. Even in moments of pain and suffering, those words would suddenly come to mind, and she was able to feel a strong sense of connection with her baby. "Maybe I was waiting for the right timing, taking my time and being confident, until the baby was born," Rieko recalls with a smile.

Koyomi's Case

When Koyomi experienced her first pregnancy, she felt that the hospital treated her coldly and did not provide her with enough emotional support. In particular, her first experience of giving birth was a stillbirth, which was extremely painful, and the hospital's treatment left a deep scar on her heart.

After that, she chose to give birth at home, hoping for a birth that was more in line with her own personality. Although Koyomi believes that "pregnancy is not an illness," she realized that regular checks by a doctor or midwife would provide peace of mind. It was Yuko, a midwife, who taught her this.

Yoshiko's Case

Yoshiko works as an administrator at a visiting nursing station while also struggling to raise her child.

Yoshiko had spoken to Yuko about her dream of becoming a midwife while pregnant, and had been consulting with her. However, being busy with work and child-rearing, she felt she did not have the time to attend midwifery school, and had almost given up. However, after hearing passionate messages from her peers who had also given birth at home, she was inspired to pursue her dream again.

Yoshiko also questions the social prejudice against choosing midwifery clinics or home births, and wants to broaden the options for childbirth more freely. "I think that if we change and shine, we can change the attitudes of those around us," she said optimistically.

summary

The births they experienced were special moments that will remain in their hearts. And behind the scenes, midwife Yuko was deeply involved and supported them throughout their births. With Yuko's presence, the women giving birth were able to feel at ease and choose the way they wanted to give birth.
